Sunlight Reflection

Fabrics for Selt reflectors and Selt awning blinds

Solar radiation is always partially transmitted, absorbed or reflected by the fabric.

Ts – Solar energy transmission. The proportion of solar energy passing through the fabric. A low percentage of this parameter means that the fabric reduces solar energy well.
gtote – Total solar energy transmittance. Solar energy that actually penetrates the room through the blinds and glazing. A low value means good thermal performance.
Tv – Transmission of visible light. The total percentage of light radiating through the fabric at wavelengths of 380 to 780 nm (nanometers). This is the so-called visible spectrum (total illumination).
As – Absorption of solar radiation. The proportion of solar radiation absorbed by the fabric. A low percentage of this parameter means that the fabric absorbs little solar energy.
Rs – Reflection of solar radiation. The proportion of solar radiation reflected from the fabric. A high percentage of this parameter means that the fabric reflects solar energy well.

Opening factor – fabric opening degree (So)

The relative area of fabric holes is determined independently of color. For fabrics with the same weave, the opening factor should be measured based on the darkest color in the collection. So – Opening Degree given in the left corner of each fabric group in the configurator. The higher the percentage, the greater the degree of opening and, therefore, the greater the light transmission. The description of the remaining properties can be found in the template below.

Fabric Properties

Selt’s finished product is manufactured in accordance with internal technological standards and the industry’s permissible production tolerances for individual components included in the system.

A wide range of fabrics allows you to match the color of the roller blinds to the architecture of the building and select the appropriate solar radiation penetration coefficient. The system is equipped with a fabric tension system that maintains its tension even on large surfaces. Each group of fabrics has its own dimension limits for a specific cover model.

1. Fabric colors

Due to different production batches, fabrics may differ in shades and, in the case of fabrics in metallic colors, in the degree of metalization of the material (see photo). The covers are made in the same shades. Nevertheless, in silver metalized fabrics, the shades may differ slightly due to the method of applying the metalizing layer during fabric production.

2. Fabric boating

For larger sizes that exceed the width of the beam, the sheathing must be made of welded panels that are additionally rotated. As a result, the fabric curls at the edges in some cases. The reason for this is that the fabric remembers the shape of the beam of the entire fabric. The described behavior of the material may intensify for roller blinds of high height and width less than 120 cm. This effect disappears with time of use.

3. Fabric welding

If the width and height of the roller blind exceed the width of the fabric beam, it is necessary to connect two pieces of fabric using joints called welds (fabrics are joined using heat and it is natural for the fabric to have a visible weld). The fabric joints are repeated horizontally with a frequency depending on the width of the bale of the selected material. In order to maintain a uniform pattern of roller blinds in a given order, we standardly perform welds on all roller blinds of the order.

4. A break in the weld

In the case of a covering width greater than 4300 mm, i.e. exceeding the length of the welding machine, it is necessary to cut a pocket. The cut is hidden in the lower beam, so it is practically unnoticeable and does not affect the properties of the covering in any way. This is a technological standard.

Photo 4B – back of the pocket

5. Acrylic fabrics

When using acrylic fabrics, due to the production technology, they are sewn vertically. Material joints occur every 120 cm or more often (symmetrically on the sides of the covering), depending on the width of the system.

6. Fabric deflection

In the Veranda roof roller blind, the effect of deflection of the unfolded fabric may occur, which is greatest on horizontal surfaces, large dimensions and heavy fabrics. While maintaining the production dimensions we propose, this effect is the natural behavior of the fabric.

7. Veranda coverings

The fabric in the Veranda system is kept in tension using a built-in tension system. The force of the tension system acts on the winding tube and may cause it to deflect, thus increasing the tension of the material in this place. As a result of this phenomenon, the fabric is stretched more tightly. When closing the system, the fabric rolls onto the roller tube and wrinkles. This causes creases to form on the fabric surface, which are visible when Veranda is unrolled. This effect is intensified in systems with large widths. This phenomenon does not affect the proper functioning of Veranda.

8. Ziipsystem covering

ZiiiP system sheathing may have material waviness visible near the guides. This phenomenon is caused by a zipper that deforms the material when the blind is rolled up. The fabric ripple effect increases the longer the system remains rolled up. If the systems are unrolled for a long time in the ZiiiP system, visible waving of the side edges of the fabric may occur.
